Long Over Due, DIY SOS

I know the last few post have gone slightly off the beauty path, however I see this space as mine and can have the freedom to write whatever I feel, and I hope you will like this post as much as I am going to enjoy writing it. This is very long over due, around 2 months ago I decided on a whim that it was time to re-decorate my room. I will be turning 20 this November, and my room just felt that it lacked maturity. So I set out on this new bedroom mission.

My Boyfriend, Darren, owns his own decorating and building company, Homes Enhanced, (which if your interested in any work you can check out the website here.) So this made him the perfect guy for the job.
I set to to decided what I wanted my room to be, wallpaper, paint, colours?  So much to think about and decided on. For colours I decided on a teal blue and cream, with a some fancy wallpaper thrown in as well.

Taking a step backwards now, here is what my bedroom started out look like before its gorgeous make-over, please excuse the mess!

But this is now a happy distant memory, just before this photo was taken I went out in search of paint samples, which let me tell all you lovely readers, is not a fun thing to do, beige and cream have many different shades all of which look the same, and showed up green on my walls. This stage, of finding the right paints alone, was the most tricky and stressful of the whole bedroom process.
As you can see, I went a bit tester mad, with about 5 different colours and shades, on different walls, marking out what was going to go where and what colours worked well.
Now, I kid you not, these green colours you are seeing on my wall, are in fact, yes, beige they are meant to be beige! Paint is madness
In the end we decided on Blue Reflection for my chimney breast colour, and Natural Hessian for the other remaining walls. Now that we had seen the back of the Paint picking process, it was on to wallpaper for the feature wall, there is a little interior design shop around 15 minutes from where I live, it always has such great window displays and so I thought right, lets go in and see what they have got, i ended up finding my wallpaper on my first outing for it.
It is by Harlequin from the Amelia line, it also comes in pink, green and beige. I was told by Darren that when choosing the paper I needed to make sure it was a good quality and quite thick otherwise it does not hang on the wall that nicely and as well it means when working with it you are less likely to encounter problems with the paper itself. The paper worked out to be £150 for 5 rolls, I love it so it was well worth the money, the only thing about patterned wallpaper is, when hanging it you have to follow the pattern which means a lot of the wallpaper just goes to waste which is a bit annoying.
Next came the really fun bit. I had my paint, wallpaper and my decorator all that was left to do was to do the room itself.
I had to clear my room of majority of everything that was in it and then help Darren move the furniture in to places which allowed him to have accesses to all the walls.
All in all it took 2 and a half days, not bad for a maniac worker that is Darren, I know he put his all in to this as he is a perfectionist and made sure I was happy with everything he did, the shelves you see in the picture above, were the black ones from my old room that he painted and re hung in a new place for me, along with touching up all the other wood work in the room. Such a Angel.

After two and a half days of non-stop hard work, too much fast food, and a lot of bad TV throughout those days, my room was complete and I could not wait to see it. I could not of asked for anything better, it was perfect, along with all the work that had been carried out in it as well, not one fault I could name, but judge for yourselves....
I finished off the room by putting my stuff back in, even though this processes helped me clear out a lot of rubbish I had, of which I really needed, I think I'm secretly a bit of a hoarder, just need to do my clothes next and then I will be all good!
I just finally added some new items from two of my most loved home wear stores, Ikea and John Lewis, this Jewellery box was from John Lewis in their Sale it was £25 down from £55, how could I say no?!
and these cute little flower pots from Ikea which now home my brushes on my desk, along with some matching pillow cases for my bed, and a little photo frame I fell in love with.

There are still more things I want to do to the room in the future, such as the floor and blinds but all in good time, and all when I have some money! Hoped you liked this post even if it was a bit different to normal. I'm so proud of the work Darren did and like I mentioned before, check him and some more of this work out here! All his contact details are on the website, and any questions tweet me, I love to hear what you think of this post and my new amazing room,

have a wonderful Saturday
